Enyeama’s Lille still forging ahead in French league

LOSC Lille Football Club of France is counting its blessings, as the club moves out of the relegation zone of the French League. Lille’s number one goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, is celebrating the survival battle of his club, after moving from bottom to the 11th position on the table.

The former Nigerian goalkeeper is however optimistic that his side may finish the league among the top five clubs in the series. Lille has played 22 matches with seven victories, five draws and 10 loses to be on 26 points on the table led by Monaco with 49 points.

Although, French clubs are engaging themselves in the FA Cup matches, but when they resume, it is not going to be business as usual for the top contenders in the series.

Meanwhile, Lille completed the transfer of three players before the transfer window deadline on Tuesday to boost the team this season in Lique 1. Their first signing of the window came with the announcement that Netherlands’ international, Anwar El Ghazi had moved to Stade Pierre-Mauroy. El-Ghazi, who can either play in a lone striker’s role or wide, joined from Ajax on a deal until the summer of 2021.

The transfer fee remains undisclosed, but L’Equipe said the striker cost around €7 million. Lille has been struggling in attack, scoring only 21 goals in 22 league games, and had been trying to sign El-Ghazi throughout the winter window. El Ghazi said, “My goal is to fight for the club, goals will come later.”
