Equities market index rises marginally by 0.01% amid renewed bullish activity

The local bourse index gained marginally by 0.01 percent at the end of Tuesday’s trade to settle at 49,445.31 points, reflecting improved investor confidence. Consequently, the year-to-date gain of the NGX ASI rose to 15.75 percent despite the Exchange printing more losers (14) than gainers (11).

Notably, RTBRISCOE, FBNH, LINKASSURE, FIDELITYBK, and ZENITHBANK were the toast of investors today, with their respective share prices rising by 10.00%, 5.00%, 4.35%, 2.05%, and 0.25%. Sectorial performance was negative as three out of the five indices tracked closed in the red zone; the NGX Consumer Goods index, NGX Oil/Gas index, and the NGX Industrial index declined by 0.05%, 2.30%, and 0.01%, respectively.

On the flip side, the NGX Banking index and the NGX Insurance Index rose by 0.22% and 0.15%, respectively. Meanwhile, trading activity remained upbeat, with total volume and value increasing by 119.07% and 61.72%, respectively, to 147.59 million units and N2.39 billion.

However, the overall number of deals declined 1.86% to 3,323 trades. In terms of volume, GTCO was the most active stock, with 35.82 million shares worth N693.69 million changing hands in 354 deals. MTNN was the most traded stock in terms of turnover, at N860.12 billion.
