Ex-Abia lawmaker ends community’s 50-yr-old potable water scarcity

A former member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon Mba Ukaha, has ended the 50-year-old portable water scarcity facing Agaga Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.

Ukaha achieved this feat by sinking a 110-meter deep water borehole powered by a 3HP capacity sumo pump valued at about N2million on top of a high hill overlooking the community.

Speaking with The Point after the completion of the project, Ukaha said that he embarked on the project to give back to the community, adding that he had over the years been thinking of how to confront the age-old challenge.

He said that the job would be incomplete until the water was reticulated to the community, whose first pipeborne water project, which had been neglected by successive governments in the state, was constructed as far back as 1964.

The former chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties and Electoral Matters called on individuals, business organisations, and government at all levels in the country to partner with the community to complete the project.
