Former Malian President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, has been reported dead in Bamako, the capital of Mali.

A source close to his family was said to have announced his death on Sunday, in Bamako.

He was aged 76 at the time of his death.

The cause of his passage has yet to be revealed.

Having come to power in September 2013, and being re-elected in 2018, Keita was overthrown on August 18, 2020 by the National Committee for the Salvation of the People after months of street protests to challenge his regime.

Shortly after the coup d’etat that ousted him, the junta granted him all the benefits of a former president of the Republic of Mali.

Since his ouster, he had stayed several times in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, for health reasons.
