Extra earnings at Ramadan

Ramadan is the most sacred month of Lunar Islamic Calendar. It is the month our Muslim brothers and sisters offer Fasting in the way of God, refraining from the desire of eating and drinking from dawn to dusk.
The ideology, according to Islam, is to fight against the evil within oneself and realise the hungry state of the poor and the deprived people who go through same sufferings throughout the year. While Muslims across the country are busy preparing for the month, which is expected to start on May 15, 2018, to give their attention to the prayers and other religious practices, it offers you a chance to earn money by starting a business in this month.

The month brings with it, a flurry of crispy crunchy bean cake, small chops and samosas, filled with spicy and delicious stuffs…when it comes to the month of Ramadan, people like to have these fried items more than any time. So, it’s quite a profitable business since it doesn’t require much investment or expertise

Below are some of the businesses you can consider in the season:

Selling fries
The month brings with it a flurry of crispy crunchy bean cake, small chops and samosas filled with spicy and delicious stuffs; not only in Ramadan but these are very popular food items across the nation in every season. But when it comes to the month of fasting, people like to have these fried items more than any time. So, it’s quite a profitable business since it doesn’t require much investment or expertise. You can start it anywhere and earn your money.

RECALL
• Unused items can be waste of resources
• Sell at 25 percent less cost price (depending on current value)
• Upload pictures, details and prices of items free on major e-commerce platforms
• Choose a safe location to meet and collect money from buyer

Selling clothes
A financial manager, Ms. Modinat Bello, explains that this is the time to sell clothes like Jalabia, caps and other clothes known with Muslims.
She says, “Most Muslims love wearing such clothes during Ramadan, especially on Fridays. You can make as much as 50 per cent profit on the sales depending on your marketing skills.”
On the other hand, you would definitely have some clothes that you don’t wear but are in good condition. You can recondition the clothes well and make them look new and sell them in the month of Ramadan. It can be a profitable business that would require no hard work or investment and you can get your profit easily.

Talk shows
The frequency with which Ramadan programmes are beamed on TV channels and aired on radio stations is always on the rise during the Ramadan fasting.
An Independent producer with Lagos Television, Mr. Abiodun Hassan, says, “Most of these live shows bring with them many schemes or quiz shows for the people to participate and win. You can have your registration in any of the shows, which will lead you to winning different cash prizes or gift items. That’s a new and cool way to earn in Ramadan.

Selling baked foods
If you are good at baking, then there is no way you should sit back home and waste your time. During the Ramadan, you have the best opportunity to utilise your skills at baking and selling delicious items like biscuits, cakes and stuffed pizzas. People like to have such items during Iftar. So it gives a good run to your business in Ramadan.

Beverages/ soft drinks
During fasting, the urge to have water and soft drinks to break with is forever high. That makes the fast a noble act that Muslims give such sacrifices in the name of Allah. So, why not try doing a temporary business of beverages to earn some extra money in this Ramadan season? You can sell drinks and beverages, for their consumption increases largely in this
month.

Fruits/ Smoothies
There is a practice, possibly followed by every Muslim, of opening the fast with fresh fruits, dates, and smoothies. It is associated with sunnah of the beloved Prophet (S.A.W.) By selling fruits like oranges, pineapple, apples and water melons, among others, in the month of Ramadan, you can have a noticeable amount of profit; and not only this, you can be a part of making people revive the sunnah of eating dates.

Brisk large-scale businesses
In the Ramadan season, you can choose to go to the hinterlands where there are farm settlements and buy fruits such as orange, pineapple, pawpaw, etc., in bulk and transport them to the popular Lagos market, Mile 12, where you can be sure the stock will be exhausted fast; for, they constitute the large part of typical iftar meal. The use of Lagos here is only a banal example, as the brisk business approach can be replicated anywhere in the country.
