Eze’s brace compounds Southampton woes

Eberechi Eze was on target for the second consecutive game for Crystal Palace as the Eagles defeated Southampton 2-0 at St. Mary’s on match day 31 of the English Premier League at the weekend.

Eze scored his first goal in the 54th minute when he pounced on a rebound before burying the ball into the middle of the goal to give Palace the lead.

He doubled the away side’s lead in the 68th minute when he collected a beautiful pass from Cheick Doucouré before producing a beautiful strike into the back of the net.

It would have been the cherry on the cake in the fourth minute of stoppage time but another former Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise saw his free-kick hit the post.

Eze, who trained with the Super Eagles six years ago, has now netted seven goals and three assists in 31 league matches.

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo started a Premier League game for Southampton for the first time since December and was brought off in the 62nd minute. He was replaced by his fellow international teammate, Paul Onuachu who didn’t have a clear sight of goal throughout his time on the pitch.
