Fake NSCDC personnel arrested for rape in Ibadan

A 20-year-old boy, Emmanuel Nwamma, who paraded himself as member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl, simply identified as Blessing.
Speaking with journalists at the weekend, at the Eleyele headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command, where he was paraded alongside other criminal suspects, Nwamma confessed that he and his friends, now at large, gang-raped the innocent girl.
The suspect, who said he borrowed the NSCDC uniform from his cousin to terrorise girls in the neighbourhood, explained that Blessing is his friend’s girlfriend.
He said that they deceived her to follow them on a motorcycle at Ojokodo Street, Agbowo Express, Ibadan and took her to his house at Ajao street in the same area where the suspect and his partners-in-crime took turns to rape her.
Recounting her ordeal, Blessing said she was in her father’s residence fetching water when Nwamma and his friend accosted her, accused her of being guilty of an undisclosed offense and directed her to mount a motorbike and took her to their house.
According to her, the suspects threatened her with knife and scissors, and on getting to their house, Nwamma asked her to pull her clothes under duress and had carnal knowledge of her in an unprotected manner.
The Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade said the arrest of the suspect followed a report made by the victim’s father, who was alerted by his daughter’s friends that his daughter has been forcibly taken away by the rapists.
According to police, exhibits recovered from Nwamma are two pairs of NSCDC uniform, five mobile phones, one beret, a belt and other items, adding that the ID card recovered from the suspect bears his photograph but a different name, Falade Elijah.
Among the other suspects paraded was a seven-man syndicate, which specialises in car theft. The members of the syndicate were arrested during a stop-and-search operation at Apete area of Ibadan.
Burglars, fraudsters and others were also paraded by the police.
