Fasanmi rates Senate’s performance low

…cautions lawmakers on alleged anti-Saraki moves

second republic senator and elder statesman, Chief Ayo Fasanmi, has rated the performance of the 8th Senate low.

Fasanmi expressed disappointment with the Senate, saying that the upper legislative chamber had, since its resumption three years ago, been wallowing in one problem or the other.

He said the running and administrative style of the Senate leadership rarely gave room for the legislature to effectively discharge its primary assignment of serving the nation.

“This current Senate is not like what we had during our time. Although things have changed compared to our time, even with that, I expect this Senate to deliver better than us, looking at various advancements that have taken place in the country and the world at large. But when you have a situation where disagreement and conflict always ensue, you will rarely have time to execute your major assignment that you were voted to do,” Fasanmi said.

He also cautioned lawmakers alleged to be working against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, warning that they needed to thread carefully to ensure that they were not distracted.

“Of course, the allegation should be investigated, but at the same time, the Senate must be careful not to be distracted from the purpose for which the citizenry voted them,” he said.

Fasanmi, therefore, advised the leadership of the country to rely on God to enable them to succeed in administering the nation.

“In all, there is the need for the leaders of this administration to turn to God. The words of God made us to understand that in life, we will see tribulation, but God will see us through. The same thing is applicable to the situation of things in this country. The ongoing challenges that we are having in this country can only be surmounted when we turn to God. Our leaders have tried their possible strength, but all seems not working. Therefore, it is time we turn to God for superior solution for this nation to be healed,” he said.

The elder statesman also charged Nigerian citizens not to withhold their support for the administration to enable it to deliver.

“No government can survive and also record success without the full support of the citizens. Therefore, the support of the citizens is needed for this administration to excel and the people must do that,” Fasanmi said.
