FEC approves N700m for completion of abandoned projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved N700 million for the completion of abandoned federal secretariats in Zamfara, Nasarawa, Gombe, Osun, Bayelsa and Anambra States.

Speaking to State House correspondents, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola disclosed that the projects had been stalled since 2012. He added that the fund for the completion of the projects was allocated in the 2016 Appropriation Act.

The projects, according to Fashola, were at various stages of completion. He explained that, “there have been changes in cost as a result of project designs, amendment; cases where original location and contract are changed and they’ve to be redesigned in such structure.”

The projects when completed, Fashola said that it will provide office accommodation for federal workers posted to the six states.

Fashola also stated that the FEC approved the completion of the abandoned Katsina 10 megawatts Wind Farm power project, which he described as part of the government’s strategic plan for renewable energy.
He said the cost of the project escalated sequel to the abduction of the contractor whom, he added, later abandoned the project.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the FEC approved an outline business case for industrial port development in Badagry, Lagos State.

Sirika said the relocation of simulator from Lagos to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, for the training of pilots and engineers was also approved.
