Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has announced the suspension of the planned petrol subsidy removal.
Ahmed made the disclosure during a meeting held at the National Assembly in Abuja on Monday, stating that the suspension would be till further notice.
Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, was earlier quoted as saying that the President was not in support of the removal of subsidy from Premium Motor Spirit.
“I will tell you categorically that at this moment, the complete removal of subsidy is not on our plate at all.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not in support of removing subsidy at this time,” Sylva stated.
The Monday meeting was convened by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and Group Managing Director, of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, also in attendance.
The Federal Government had earlier planned to stop subsidy payments on petroleum products from July 2022.
