Finally, Ondo Dep Gov dumps PDP

He has squandered his goodwill – PDP

AFTER weeks of speculation, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ajayi, who had decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the PDP shortly before the PDP governorship primary election, has decided to pick the Zenith Labour Party’s ticket, having lost to Eyitayo Jegede in the PDP primary.

Though he had said he would not leave the PDP after he lost, saying that he fought against different interests, his moves with leaders of ZLP had shown that he only made a political statement.

His close aides said he was waiting for the right time to make his resignation official, having encountered a hitch in the PDP.

It was however gathered that he eventually dropped his resignation letter at the Ondo State PDP Secretariat on Monday.

A group had insisted that he must run for governorship, and this formed the basis of his decision, as he also said his people insisted he must contest the next election.

The Deputy Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tope Okeowo, who confirmed the resignation of his boss from the PDP, said he would soon declare his defection to ZLP.

The PDP in the state has, however, criticized the move, saying Ajayi had squandered his goodwill.

“Agboola Ajayi has abused the welcome and privilege accorded him by our party supporters during his brief stay in the party. He also proved that he is desperate to become the Governor of Ondo State. In the days to come, it will dawn on him that, he has squandered his goodwill with this decision,” the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, said in a statement.
