Fire guts section of Zenith Bank branch in Lagos

There was a fire outbreak at a branch of Zenith Bank on Ajose Adeogun street, Victoria Island, Lagos state, on Wednesday.

In a statement on Wednesday, Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos fire service, said the agency and rescue service were at the scene of the incident to put out the fire which was reported around 7:25am.

She noted that the fire was doused before it could spread and cause “any meaningful damage”.

“On arrival at the scene, which was reported at 07:25 hours, it was discovered that a room on the ground floor of a four-storey building housing the alternative power source inverter panels and batteries was on flame,” Adeseye said.

In a related development, Adeseye said another fire outbreak was recorded at a warehouse on Olabisi Close, Mende – Maryland area of the state.

“The warehouse measured about 2,000 square feet. However, the fire spread to the fourth floor in an unusual pattern leaving the first to third floors unaffected.

“The building which housed both commercial and residential floors has the ground floor as commercial storage of clothing materials engulfed in the ensuing fire with residential accommodation on the first to the fourth floors.

“Officers of the Lagos state and Federal Fire Service, the Nigerian Police, LASAMBUS and LASEMA all worked together in the Maryland Fire.

“Meanwhile, there was no record of death or injury at both scenes of the incidents which were just two out of the 11 emergencies attended by the Agency in the last 24 hours.”
