Five docked for motorcycle theft in Osun

The police in Osun State have arraigned five persons before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly conspiring and stealing a Bajaj motorcycle worth N155,000.

The five persons docked before Magistrate Olubukola Olowolagba included 40-year-old Ganiyu Waheed; Mufutau Kabir, 24; Ganiyu Kabir, 24; Toafuq Oguntolu, 40 and Ajibola Quadri, 23.

Addressing the court, police prosecutor, Sergeant Rasaki Olayiwola, said the accused persons committed the offence on August 21, 2016 at about 10:00pm at Ewenla Street, Ayepe in Osogbo.

Olayiwola said that they stole a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number EKY 601 QG with engine number DUZWEFJ84280 belonging to one Murtala Muideen.

He said the accused persons waylaid Muideen before stealing the motorcycle from him.
The prosecutor said that it took the intervention of the police to apprehend the accused persons and recover the stolen motorcycle.

According to Olayiwola, the offence committed contravened sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

But the five accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two count-charge of conspiracy and theft slammed on them.

Counsels to the accused persons, Mr Ajibade Shittu and Mr Promise Jones, prayed the court to grant their clients bail in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Olowolagba granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.

Olowolagba said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment and two passports sized photographs attached with an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned to September 29, 2016 for hearing.
