RESIDENTS of Olanrewaju Street, Ejigbo, Lagos, have been thrown into confusion and fear as four men allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl to death in one of the houses on the street.

The deceased, according to information gathered, was sent on an errand by her mother upon arrival from school when the perpetrators lured her inside a room to gang rape her to death.

The incident, which had landed several residents of the street in the police station in the area, had also caused some others to abandon their homes for fear of being arrested by the Police.

A resident, who narrated the incident to our correspondent, Segun Waheed, said the house where the incident occurred was known for harbouring hoodlums who engaged in various atrocities.

“Those boys in that house are known for various atrocities. They had once raped a married woman at night. They also ambush people at night in that area. People know that place as a lion’s den. I just wonder how the teenager fell victim,” he told The Point.

On how the victim was discovered in the house, Segun, said, “Her parents started looking for her when she did not return from where she was sent to for hours. After much toil, they were advised to check the house with police.

“Unfortunately for them, on getting there, the girl was found lifeless and naked in a room inside the house.”

Meanwhile, some of the suspects arrested in the house had reportedly confessed that the teenager was raped by four men.

On police invasion of the area over the incident, another resident, Solomon Olorunfemi, told our correspondent that the police team stormed the area when the DPO was informed about the matter.

“Already, they knew that house is known for various hoodlums’ activities, so they had to quickly move down to make some arrest. It is sad that a young girl can fall victim of those hoodlums, and I believe this will make government do something about them in this area,” Olorunfemi told The Point.

Further findings by our correspondent revealed that the owner of the room where the deceased was found naked, Talabi, had been arrested.

However, the Lagos State DNA & Forensic Centre (LSD & FC) had visited the scene of the incident to conduct forensic analysis on the victim. The officials also took the corpse away in an ambulance for investigation and to deposit at a morgue.

The Lagos Police Public Relation Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “Police team will intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators who are currently at large and also make them to face the wrath of law.
