  • Police arrest victim’s fleeing friends

Aman, who had accompanied his friends to a swimming pool in a hotel at the Ogba area of Lagos, has allegedly drowned.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim, Master Raphael Chukwuma, who was in his early 20s, had gone to Durbar Hotel in Ogba in company with five of his friends to catch some fun at the swimming pool area of the recreational centre when he met his tragic death.

the victim was swiftly rushed to a nearby private hospital, but he was rejected as nothing more could be done to bring him back to life

Our source revealed that the deceased had joined others to swim in the hotel’s pool without putting on a life-jacket.

Shortly after the fun began, Chukwuma was said to have lost control as he reportedly struggled, signaling to his other friends that he had some difficulties in sustaining the tempo because he was a mere amateur swimmer.

His friends, who did not look in his direction as he struggled to remain afloat in the swimming pool, were said to be busy shouting and taking selfies while the victim was drowning.

Later, when they noticed that Chukwuma was too far away from where his skill could cope with, they drew the attention of the hotel management.

It was, however, rather too late before a rescue operation was carried out and by the time the victim was brought out of the swimming pool, he had already drowned.

Our source revealed further that the victim was swiftly rushed to a nearby private hospital, but he was rejected as nothing more could be done to bring him back to life.

The source added that as a last resort, the victim was taken to Ifako-Ijaye General Hospital, where he was merely certified dead.

Investigations revealed that while efforts were being made to revive Chukwuman, his other friends simply took to their heels and fled in different directions.

Their action was said to have angered police detectives, who arrested the victim’s fleeing friends.

At the police station, the five suspects were said to have given a detailed narration of how Chukwuma died in the hotel’s swimming pool.

As at the time our reporter made a call at Durbar Hotel two days ago, both staff and management of the hotel had fled, while the police at Ogba confirmed our findings.
