Ganduje orders immediate closure of all schools, health training institutions in Kano

GOVERNOR Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state with immediate effect.

A statement on Wednesday, signed by the state Commissioner for Education, Sanusi Kiru, disclosed this.

The state government did not officially state the reason for the directive but The Point gathered that the closure of schools became imperative following the rising COVID-19 cases, which had led to the closure of schools in some other northern states, including Kaduna and Jigawa.

It was also learnt that the Governor might have taken his decision in view of the state of security, which led to the abduction of hundreds of school boys in Kankara, Katsina, last Friday.

Recall that the Zamfara State Government had ordered the closure of 10 boarding schools and others on Tuesday, following the abduction in Kankara.

According to the Kano State Government, all public and private health training institutions in the state have also been shut with immediate effect.

The affected health institutions are School of Basic/Post Basic Nursing and Midwifery, School of Health Technology and School of Hygiene.

The Governnent advised parents to pick their children from their respective schools today (Wednesday) unfailingly.
