Give assent to our bill now, VGN appeals to President

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the bill for its establishment into law to enable it to assist other security agencies to fight against insecurity in the country.

The Commander General, VGN, Usman Jahun, made this appeal at a capacity building workshop for departmental and special unit commanders of the South West in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Jahun, who was represented by his Deputy Commander General, Garba Abdullahi, urged the President to assent to the bill to improve security across the country.

He, however, assured that since the group was saddled with the responsibility of community policing, it would do its best to join forces with other security agencies to fight against activities posing a threat to the security of the nation.

“You know the bill has been passed by the National Assembly. So, we are urging President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the bill. We are putting hands together to assist the military and police in terms of fighting this type of Boko Haram crises. So, we are always attached to the military and the police to assist them in terms of community policing,” he added.

The state Commander of VGN, Adedoyin Nureni, who expressed regret over the nation’s security challenges, however, expressed optimism that the bill would soon be assented to by the President.

“The VGN is a community security-oriented organisation and the bill is on the table of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We, therefore, hope and pray the President will sign it into law,” he said.
