The Minister of State for Works and supervising Minister of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has expressed concern over the poor budgetary allocation for road maintenance in Nigeria.

A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by FERMA’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Maryam Sanusi, quoted Goronyo as raising the issue during his visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

He emphasized that Nigerians deserve safe and smooth road experiences but noted that insufficient funding remains a major challenge.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has prioritized infrastructure, particularly road development, but competing demands across sectors and the state of the economy have made adequate budgetary provision difficult.

During the visit, Goronyo, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adebiyi Olusesan Olufunso, also inspected FERMA’s proposed corporate headquarters along the Abuja Airport Road.

The Minister commended the agency’s performance and pledged his full support to achieving the government’s mandate for road maintenance.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary emphasised the negative consequences of insufficient and delayed support for the road sector.

He commended FERMA’s employees, ranking them as among the best in the public service.

FERMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Emeka Agbasi, thanked the Minister for his commitment and support, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to keeping Nigeria’s federal road network operational year-round.
