Governor Yahaya Bello assents to 15 bills, targets improved IGR across LGAs

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has assented to 15 bills brought before him by the Kogi State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Aliyu Umar Yusuf.

The bills were the last Governor Bello will sign into law as he prepares to handover to his successor on Friday.

The ceremony, which was held on Wednesday in Lokoja, had the governor-elect, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo in attendance, Chief Press Secretary to the speaker, Yabagi Mohammed told newsmen.

Other dignitaries that attended the signing ceremony include the SSG and others.

The bills signed into law include; A Law to Repeal the Kogi State Internal Revenue Administration, Harmonization of Taxes, Duties, Levies Rates, Fees and Charges due to the State and revenue appeal Tribunal Law 2017 and to Re-enact the Revenue Administration and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024, a Law to make provision for the Revenue and Expenditure of all the Twenty-One (21) Local Government Areas of Kogi State for the year ending 31st December, 2024 and other matters connected therewith, 2024, and a Law to make provision for Supplementary Appropriation of the Twenty-One (21) Local Government Areas of Kogi State for the year ending 31st December 2023 and other matters connected therewith, 2023.

Others are a Law to Establish College of Education (technical) Mopa, Kogi State and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024, a Law to provide for Kogi State free Examination Registration fees Law and other matters connected therewith Law, 2024, a Law to repeal and re-enact the Kogi State Area COurt Law, 1991 and other matters Connected therewith, 2024, a Law to enact the Kogi State Animal Disease Control and other matters connected therewith, 2024, a Law to Provide for the Enactment of the Kogi State Land Use Charge and other matters connected therewith, 2024, a Law to amend the Kogi State Sharia Court of Appeal Law, 2025 to Establish Feeder Courts in strengthening the proceedings and other matters connected therewith, 2024 and a Law to amend the Magistrate Courts Law of Kogi State, 2020 and other matters connected thereto.

According to the Speaker, the presentation of the bills was in consonance with the provision of Section 100 Subsection 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended.
