A computer science graduate, Miss Salamot Adeboye Ashiru, is seeking N30 million for a kidney transplant surgery at Gbagada General Hospital, in Lagos.
The family, which hails from Ogun State, said it all started in 2023 in the form of an ulcer when Ashiru experienced discomfort in breathing.
According to the family, they conducted a series of tests to determine the cause of her discomfort, but none of the tests confirmed anything until it was discovered at Gbagada General Hospital that her kidneys had failed and that a transplant is the only possible option to revive them.
A medical report signed by the consultant, Dr. A. A. Busari, indicated that Ashiru was diagnosed with acute chronic kidney disease following a thorough clinical and biomedical evaluation.
“On June 2, 2023, she presented as hypertensive, with a history of cough, vomiting, and mild leg swelling,” the report added.
After graduating from the university, Ashiru sought to apply her computer science skills at different federal positions but was rejected.
Her ailment has added to her sorrow as she fights for survival.
Speaking on her behalf, her elder sister, Adetutu Ashiru, appealed to Nigerians and corporate organisations to come to the rescue of her younger sister, whose life is threatened by a kidney problem.
She further explained that her family has sold cars, property and other valuable items to keep up with her weekly dialysis, which has amounted to over N15 million over the past two years.
She lamented that they are now living in poverty unaware of where their next meal will come from.
She emphasised her willingness to donate her kidney to save her sister’s life, as the family has endured more hardship.
