Group lambasts Okowa for spending N382m on aides

A group, under the aegis of Delta Youth Parliament, has lambasted Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State for spending N382million, monthly, on his political aides.
The group described the governor’s action as insensitive.
The group’s President and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Wilson Okorugbo and Comrade Oscar Wiliki, respectively, stated that they were shocked that the state government could engage 2,203 political appointees at a time many governments were cutting down cost due to the economic crisis in the country.
The group noted that with the revelation by the state commissioner for finance recently, it was clear that Governor Okowa had continued with the wastefulness that characterised the over 18 years of the previous administration in the state.
“The same government that sacked about 3,000 graduates employed by his predecessor for paucity of fund could turn around to engage 2,203 and spend a whopping N382m as monthly salary for political reasons; it’s not only indiscreet, but reckless,” it said.
