Group protests alleged plan to release Doguwa

Some concerned citizens of Doguwa and Tudun Wada Local Government Areas of Kano State, on Thursday, protested the alleged plans by the Kano State Government and the leadership of the House of Representatives to interfere in the court case of the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ado Doguwa, in order to secure his release.

Doguwa was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by the Kano Chief Magistrate Court.

The protesters, who stormed Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre located at Farm Centre, Kano state around 5:30pm, carried placards with various inscriptions denouncing the alleged plan by Kano State Government and leadership of lower chamber to scuttle the case and get him released.

They alleged that there was collaboration between the Kano State Government and leadership of the House of Representatives to ensure the release of Doguwa.

Addressing journalists, the leader of the group and former Commissioner in the state, Nura Dankadai, said releasing Doguwa would amount to subversion of justice and lack of sympathy and compassion for the affected people in the areas.

“As we’re approaching the governorship election on March 11, releasing the accused person can constitute a serious security threat to the peaceful conduct of the election,” Dankadai said.
