Gunmen abduct 12-year-old girl, kill father in Abuja community

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly killed a man and, as well, kidnapped his 12-year-old daughter in the Chukuku area during an attack on Kuje community in Abuja.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen who stormed the community in large number, shot sporadically making the residents to scamper for safety.

The armed men were said to have operated for hours in the community on Tuesday.

“Efforts were made to get the Police during the incident, but the police were nowhere to be found,” a resident of the community was quoted as saying.

As of the time of filing this report, the abductors had not established any contact with the family or community leaders for ransom.

A resident said, “We were taken unawares as we heard sporadic gunshots from different directions leading to confusion.

“The gunmen came in large number. It was as if they came for war. Later, we discovered that they targeted the residence of a man in Chukuku, along Old Chukuku Road.

“They killed the man and took away his 12-year-old-daughter with them. During the operation, we reached out to one of the emergency numbers of the police. We didn’t see any officers until they finished the operation and left.”

A security personnel was quoted as saying that the FCT Command had been notified on the incident and officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit have been deployed for a manhunt to the area.
