The FCT Health Insurance Scheme on Tuesday unveiled a working document to enhance productivity of services under the health insurance scheme.
Director FHIS, Dr Ahmed Danfulani, said that the journey to the provision of the document started in 2018, and that a lot of diligent work was done to put up the document.
He said that a lot of specialists including Civil Society Organisations were involved in the production before the document could be made available, adding that, it was a comprehensive work done.
Danfulani said, “We aimed at reviewing this document every three years to meet the standard of the society; the FCT insurance scheme is for every resident whether working or not.
“It is just a little payment of N13,500 for every individual in a year, the benefit of the package is too enormous.’’
The Acting Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr Mohammed Kawu, appreciated the work done by the FHIS, adding that, the document would give many Nigerians access to health insurance.
Kawu, who was represented by Dr Ndaeyo Iwot, Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Board, stated that the Federal Capital Territory Development would continue to support FHIS.
Permanent Secretary, FCT, Olusade Adesola, said that the FCTA had set out motion that would give health insurance scheme a legal framework in view of its importance, affordability and accessibility to healthcare delivery.
He said that the motion was to make the scheme more inclusive in its coverage, widen the scope of the operations to capture the poor and vulnerable with the determination of the people.
Adesola added that these categories of beneficiaries would also gain from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund that incorporated free insurance cover for them.
“It is important to bring to your notice that the BHCPF is a Federal Government Health Initiative which the FCT administration has keyed into and met all the requirements for fund disbursement.
“Already, over 9, 000 poor and vulnerable in the FCT are currently being enrolled on this programme,’’ Adesola said.
He urged the operators of the health insurance scheme to find ways of capturing terminal diseases and ailments, such as cancer, liver related problems, sickle cell and other life threatening sicknesses into the scheme.
He also charged stakeholders of the scheme to consider including the aged in the FCT as beneficiaries of the laudable health initiative.
The acting secretary added that they should also devise strategies that would attract more partners, local, international partners and donor agencies to identify with the scheme.
Adesola charged the stakeholders to redouble their efforts in the areas of publicity and sensitisation in a bid to create more awareness as it related to the provisions and operations of the health insurance agency.
