Heavy downpour: Over 50 Houses submerged, properties destroyed in Benin

It was pathetic situation in Benin City metropolis on Wednesday morning when it rained cat and dog for almost five hours non-stop.

The rainfall caused a lot of damages with over 50 houses submerged.

Although, there was no report of life loss, but properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the flood.

At Oba market area, Tomline, along Ugbowo axis, Government Reservation Area, fridges were converted into emergency canoe by residents.

Residents, who spoke with our correspondent, lamented that the flood had remained usual occurrence because state the government has refused to clear up all the water ways for free flow whenever it rains.

They also lamented the abandonment of Benin water storm project started by Comrade Adams Oshiomhlo’s administration.
