Herdsmen attacks: FG not showing sincerity, says CD

The Campaign for Democracy has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to show sincerity and uprightness in the handling of the affairs of Nigeria, especially with regard to the security lapses arising from frequent Fulani herdsmen’s attacks.

The body in a statement at the weekend, particularly lamented that the President’s attitude to security matters and Federal character portrayed him as highly insensitive to the problems of the nation.

The CD’s statement by its National Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Odili, alleged that the President “is either far from current-day reality or is simply on a mandate to wage war against a particular section of the country, , working in concert with some Arab nations, thereby carrying out ethnic and religious cleansing as earlier alleged by Gen. T.Y. Danjuma.

“Fulani taking over people’s lands, killing of farms owners and priests in the north and his refusal to declare the Fulani herders as terrorist group, is a clear indication that Buhari is out for some mischief aimed at
getting rid of the opposite religion. It is not only against the law of natural justice to forcefully take over another man’s properties for selfish businesses, it is also a contradiction of God’s doctrine on right to ownership.

“It also contradicts the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, chapter 4, section 43 and section 44, subsection (a) and (b) as amended.

“It is either Buhari’s government lives up to its expectations or we begin to seek a type of government different from democracy, as it seems that democracy is not fit in African, particularly in the Nigerian setting,” the CD threatened

The body also said, “In reminiscence, all our leaders from 1999 when Nigeria returned to Democratic rule have failed the nation woefully. Nigeria’s government since 1999 can be best described as narcissism. Our successive leaders, save the late Umaru Year Adua, are only interested in their narrow
fancies.

“Their priority is themselves and their immediate families at the expense of Nigerian people. These leaders have exhibited the characteristics of a narcissist, which are arrogance, dominance and hostility. And we all know that Narcissism is most often described as unhealthy and destructive.

“The CD is therefore calling Nigeria President to shun all forms of chauvinisms, stop the pursuit for ethnic and religious dichotomies and embrace a nationalistic agenda, otherwise, we shall begin to deliberate on how to end democracy and begin agitation for another form of governance that will not give room for any form of anti-human tendencies and policies because democracy has failed in every
ramification.”
