High-tension cables from Ikorodu across Ikeja and other areas have fallen in the Igando and Idimu areas of Lagos State.
Though no casualty was recorded, the cables reportedly fell Friday morning after the pylon transmitting electricity from Egbin Hydro Power Station collapsed.
Confirming the report, the South West co-ordinator of the Nigeria National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, enjoined residents of the areas to be safety conscious, even as he said officials of his agency were at the scene of the incident.
The Lagos State government had persistently warned against the building of shanties underneath high-tension cables, which have often not been heeded, as these cables fell on shanties underneath it.
Farinloye, however, said power service agencies and other officials have successfully isolated the 330kva line.
According to him, “Residents of Igando, Idimu axis are strongly advised to observe serious safety precautions due to the collapse of high tension poles that emanated from Egbin Hydro Power Station.”
“The line is from Ikorodu across Ikeja and other areas. The fire service has been mobilised to provide cover, in case of fire incident,” he added.
