The Police in Osun State have arrested a 29-year-old lady, Damilola Oyedotun, for allegedly defrauding the hotel where she worked.

Oyedotun, a receptionist at 3PLE Zero Hotel, located at Ayekale-Otaefun Area, Osogbo, capital of the state, was accused of collecting the company’s sales, totaling N1, 800,000 and converting it to her own.

The police said the defendant connived with other fleeing staff of the hotel to commit the act.

After the Police arrested the receptionist on July 26, 2023, it approached an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for an order to keep her in its custody to enable operatives to travel to Lagos State to arrest other fleeing suspects.

In an affidavit brought in support of a motion ex-parte, police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, informed the court that releasing Oyedotun on administrative bail without completion of investigation would frustrate the matter.

“The Respondent (Oyedotun) being a staff in the complainant’s (Oluyemi Oluwaseun) 3PLE Zero Hotel, located at Ayekale-Otaefun Area, Osogbo, Osun State, in connivance with other staff members, now at large, defrauded the company of the sum of One Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N1, 800,000.00K) by collecting the company’s sales through their personal accounts and converting same to their personal use,” the application read.

However, Magistrate Abdulateef Ajala granted the application and ordered that the suspect be remanded in police custody for two weeks.

Similarly, the police dragged a 34-year-old man, Paul Joseph, before the court for allegedly stealing cartons of wine valued N1, 202,307.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kayode, informed the court that the accused person, a worker at Braw Multi Services Company, Dada Estate, Osogbo, allegedly stole some cartons of wine, valued at N1, 202,307, between February and May, 2023.

One of the counts read, “That you, Paul Joseph, on the same date and place did steal the sum of One Million Two Hundred and Two Thousand Three Hundred and Seven Naira (N1, 202,307:00) only, property of one Adejuwon Busayo.”

Kayode noted that the defendant committed offences contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and had no legal representation.

Magistrate Ajala ordered that Joseph be remanded in the correctional centre and adjourned till August 24 for mention.
