One Pastor Daniel Obasi was reported to have died when his two-storey building, under construction at Number 77, Tapa Road, Oke-Ojo, Isawo community in Ikorodu, Lagos, collapsed on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, acting Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency in the South-West, confirmed the incident in an interview with journalists in Lagos, on Tuesday.

Farinloye said that the deceased cleric was trapped in the building. The dead body had been reportedly recovered and taken to the morgue at the General Hospital, Ikorodu by the police.

The NEMA chief said that the structure that collapsed was an attached structure to the main building.

The coordinator quoted a neighbour of the deceased as saying that construction work was suspended at the site due to the ongoing Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

β€œThe cause of the (building) collapse was suspected to be as a result of inadequate time to allow land to compact properly before the commencement of construction and use of poor building materials,’’ said Farinloye.
