How I ran mad after taking “schooshi,” a local hard drug mixture – Addict

…says ‘I’ve disgraced my family, wife’

When Super Eagles defeated Iceland by two goals to zero in the ongoing World Cup in Russia recently, many Nigerians rejoiced and jubilated. But one man in the Okota area of Lagos, Samson Momoh, took the celebration of Nigeria’s victory over Iceland in the global tournament too far.

At a bar in the area, he had been sipping and gulping “schooshi” to get ‘high’! But immediately Nigeria scored her second goal and everybody watching the match jubilated, Momoh ran out of the bar, where they were all watching the event.

Within a twinkle of an eye, he had begun to run amok in the streets.

Growing wild, he violently raged in an uncontrolled manner, stripped himself naked and left without any form of clothing on!

Since the beginning of the match, Momoh had actually been sipping a squash of locally produced hard drug called “schooshi,” an admixture of tramadol, codeine and Indian hemp, garnished and flavoured with the local hot drink called ‘ogogoro’ and soft drinks.

He even ignored warnings by a friend of his not to take too much of the dangerous “schooshi,” as he gulped down several cups of the hard drug as he watched the Nigeria versus Iceland football match.

Momoh’s friend and one of those who rescued him after taking an “overdose” of “schooshi” and ran amok, Kola Ogundele, said, “Momoh, who hails from Edo State, stripped himself without even having an underwear on after Nigeria’ s second goal at the World Cup holding in Russia. Momoh was drinking schooshi, a mixture of Indian hemp, tramadol, codeine, local gin and soft drink, in a bar at Ikota before they started the match. I was drinking beer and was warning Momoh that the schooshi he had consumed was enough, but all my pleas fell on deaf ears.

“It was immediately after Musa scored the second goal that Momoh screamed with joy, ran, jumped, undressed himself and pulled off even his underwear as he ran out of the bar. We had to run after him. We were able to catch up with him, hold him down, bind his legs and hands together before we carried him to his residence. I had a bet with him that Iceland would defeat Nigeria, while he insisted that Nigeria would win the match. We both brought out N5, 000 each for the bet. He won. But he drank so much of the substance that he could not control his excitement. I don’t drink schooshi. I also discourage people from drinking it because it is hard drug. Some consist of Indian hemp, local gin, tramadol, codeine, and soft drink or juice.

“I had to sleep in his apartment in case he wanted to attack his wife and his baby boy. But after about an hour he slept off. I had already bought Ijebu garri in case he woke up and needed food. So around after 4am this morning, he woke up. He began to shout at his wife when he saw himself tied with rope. I had to explain what he did to him. He was shocked. He never believed he behaved in such manner. He also swore never to drink schooshi again because it has caused a disgrace to him. We untied him. He drank the garri .But let’s hope he keeps to his words. His wife, Anna had already called his elder brother who came from Surulere and drove him to his residence. Mary had cried to him that Momoh would kill himself if he continued to drink schooshi. It was also in the morning that he collected the N5,000  he won after Nigeria defeated
Iceland.”

Momoh told our correspondent that he was not conscious of all he did that day, adding that he would have killed himself and ruined his family due to the effect of “schooshi.”

He confessed that he had been in habit of spending so much money on hard drugs like tramadol, codeine, Indian hemp, which he would combine with local gin called ‘ogogoro’ to prepare “schooshi.”

Momoh said he almost died on the day Nigeria and Iceland were playing their World Cup Football Match, after Nigeria defeated Iceland 2- 0.

He said he was later told that he ran amok and stripped himself naked on the street after Nigeria beat Iceland.

Momoh said, “Now I have been trying to stop it. I have not even drunk beer since then. I only take soft drink. My elder brother, Lucky, was called and he had to move to his flat in Surulere. I regret disgracing my family and my wife, Mary. I pray that God should not allow me to go back to the bad habit. You can kill somebody without knowing it. You can even kill yourself in the process. It’s a shame that I let myself and my family down. I want you to publish it because I don’t want to go back to it again. I want to avoid some of my friends because of schooshi and Indian hemp. I used to get money, but I would lavish it on the rubbish. I don’t know if I had been cursed. How can I remove all my clothes, without even covering my manhood? That was real madness. God forbid. I pray it will not happen again.”
