How trailer crushed unidentified man in Apapa

An attempt by an unidentified pedestrian to cross the road around Agbo Malu Bus stop, Mobil Road in Apapa, Lagos, has resulted in a fatal accident, which claimed the life of the man.

The man was said to be walking across the road when a fast-moving trailer sped towards him and before he could run across the road, he was hit and run over by the vehicle.

The trailer killed the pedestrian instantly, ripping open his stomach as his intestines gushed out.

Many passersby, who saw the corpse of the victim, were said to have burst into tears.

The man did not look very well as he was crossing the expressway and by the time he realised it, the vehicle was too close for him to escape the accident. The vehicle ran over him and he died instantly

It was gathered that the driver attempted to escape, but the soldiers around did not allow him to do that.

According to an eyewitness, Mutairu Usman, “The man did not look very well as he was crossing the expressway and by the time he realised it, the vehicle was too close for him to escape the accident. The vehicle ran over him and he died instantly. Soldiers from Arakan, Tego, and Ashanti Barracks were at the scene. The driver wanted to escape but he was apprehended. The man is a Hausa man by his looks. Many people wailed when they saw the victim’s lifeless body at the scene of accident.”

Usman said that the victim’s corpse was later removed from the highway and kept by the roadside for identification. He said the corpse was left at the scene for over two hours before it was finally evacuated. It was taken to the mortuary of a general hospital in the area.

Traffic policemen from the Apapa Police Division also visited the accident scene and arrested the driver of the vehicle, who was whisked away to the station in a patrol vehicle.

The trailer involved in the accident was also impounded and driven to the station while the traffic policemen continued their investigation into the cause of the accident.
