A middle-aged man, Alhaji Yakubu, has dragged his wife, Umma Nafiu, before a Kano Shariah Court for allegedly getting married to another man.
The plaintiff told the court that the woman, whom he married legally, suddenly jilted him and united with another man, Mallam Salisu.
According to him, his estranged wife left him for another man without serving him a divorce notice.
In the originating summons, the plaintiff accused Salisu of getting married to his wife, Umma, saying, “Our marriage was intact, but suddenly, I realised that she (Umma) went and got married to another man.”
However, Umma told the court that Yakubu’s allegation was untrue. She urged the court to adjourn the case so that she could get her lawyer.
“I have a lawyer but he is not in court. I want this matter to be adjourned so that the matter would be treated in the presence of my lawyer,” Umma said.
The presiding Khadi, Abdullahi Waya, adjourned the case till November 1 for continuation of hearing.
