I don’t believe in baking my face to look good, says diva, Niyola

For Nigeria’s leading female artiste, Eniola Akinbo, popularly known as Niyola, a good application of cosmetics makes every woman’s day a very pleasant one.

According to Niyola, cosmetics on their own make life better for all women. The beautiful diva, who also feels that modesty should be the watchword for every fashion-conscious woman, says elegance should be built on simplicity. Unlike many others in her world of entertainment, Niyola does not take delight in baking her face.

I don’t feel I need to bake my face or do you feel I need to do that? It also depends on the individual; I’m very comfortable in my skin. I’m a minimalist in the stuff that I do. I like to always keep it simple

Explaining her reason for that, she says, “I don’t feel I need to bake my face or do you feel I need to do that? It also depends on the individual; I’m very comfortable in my skin. I’m a minimalist in the stuff that I do. I like to always keep it simple. Even when I cook, I don’t like to overdo with spices. I always want the natural taste to remain and for the spices to just complement the dish; not overpower it. And that’s how it is in everything I do. When I sing, I don’t overdo my singing and my adlibs. That’s pretty much my outlook towards life. It shows in every aspect of my life. It’s not that those people are not confident in themselves, it’s just who they are.”

Niyola, however, says she is always at home with some special cosmetics and fragrance. “I can’t do without lip gloss, mascara and a fresh fragrance. I cannot leave my house without them!

“I think the only thing I’m really vain about is my lashes. When I eventually get to makeup, I spend so much time on my lashes. I take my time to brush it out and I love it when people ask if they’re false!” she says.

Eniola Akinbo was born in Lagos in 1985. She’s the youngest of the ten children in her family. She sang in church with her siblings and was inspired to choose music as a career, when she attended a Funmi Adams’ concert. She began her sojourn in the music world in 2000, when she emerged runner-up at the Amen Starlet Competition. In 2005, Niyola began her professional music career and was briefly affiliated with eLDee’s Trybes Records. She later signed a production deal with Freestyle’s Make Sum Noise Entertainment.
