A Kano-based businessman, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has dragged a legal practitioner, Babangida Birga, before a Kano State High Court for allegedly breaching a N20 million land transaction agreement.
Abdulahi informed the court sitting at Miller Road area of the city that an estate agent introduced him to Birga to purchase a plot of land located within the Kano metropolis.
The plaintiff further explained that after the lawyer had shown him the terms of sales of the said property, he paid the sum of N20 million into his (Birga’s) bank account earlier this year.
He told the court that on the completion of the transfer of the money into the account of the lawyer, he made attempts to access the plot of land but discovered, to his amazement, that the same plot of land had been sold to another person by the lawyer.
Abdulahi prayed the court to compel the defendant to refund the sum of N20 million paid for the land since he could not possess the land.
However, Birga denied the allegation of fleecing his client and urged the court to discountenance the plaintiff’s prayer.
Justice Abdulrahman Mai Wada adjourned the matter till January 13, 2022 for continuation of hearing.
