If I had raped 2-year-old baby, she’ll have been dead by now, says suspect

38-year-old commercial bus driver, Sola Ewulo, has denied having carnal knowledge of a two-year-old girl he’s being accused of defiling.

Ewulo said that if he had had a carnal knowledge of the two-year- old baby, the girl would have been dead by now.

The suspect said that he had never contemplated such a thing and never committed such a dastardly act.

Ewulo, who resides at Taiwo Street, Agbado- Ijaiye, Lagos, said he never knew what he did to the baby’s mother that would make her level such an allegation against him, adding that his reputation had been tarnished as he was now so ashamed of himself to even return to his residence.

He said, “Oga, please, believe me. I did not rape the baby. I only played with her. And that was not the first time I would carry the baby. I like children and will not like to hurt any child. Me, to rape a two- year-old child! Not me. I cannot do such a thing. What is in the baby that would have attracted me to insert my private part into hers? I f I made love to the two-year-old baby, probably she would have been dead by now or even before her mother returned home. How can the police believe that I would make love to a two-year-old baby?  If you put more people in her presence and asked who had carnal knowledge of her, she is likely to point at another person.

“Why a baby? She has no breast to play with. Nothing! So, what am I going to enjoy having fun with her? If I don’t have any girlfriend, are there no prostitutes in the Alagbado area or any other part of Lagos? I’m a ‘danfo’ driver. Instead of making love to a baby, which I can never enjoy, I should have better bargained with a harlot and pay the money and also enjoy sex without fear of being arrested. The police should know that the mother told lies against me. I’m innocent of what they are accusing me of.”

While parading Ewulo and other suspects, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, said the suspect was arrested for defiling his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter.

Edgal said the mother of the baby had left her child in Ewulo’s care for a short while to get something from somewhere, but when she returned she found that her daughter was no longer comfortable.

He said while the mother was observing her child, she noticed a white liquid substance she suspected to be sperm, dripping from her baby’s private part.

The commissioner of police said when the woman asked the baby who did that to her, she pointed at the suspect.

He said Ewulo “was arrested for defiling his neighbour’s daughter. The mother of the victim had on that day, left her in the care of the suspect and dashed into the neighbourhood to buy some provisions. When she returned after a couple of minutes, she couldn’t find her daughter nor the man she left her with.  Much later, she saw her daughter in the corridor of the house scratching her private part and she complained about the pains she was experiencing.

“She noticed some whitish substance dripping out of her private part. The mother was alarmed and so she asked her baby who did this to her and she mentioned the suspect. The suspect who is a commercial bus driver has been questioned in respect of the incident at the Gender Unit of the police force.”

But Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti said, “The suspect is telling lies. Do you believe him? Which criminal you will apprehend that will come out to tell you that he committed the offence? That is how they are. He will continue to deny. Anyway, we are doing our own job as policemen, but when he gets to the court he should prove his innocence. We did not invite ourselves to his residence. It was the mother of the victim that invited the police. So, when he gets to court, he should let them know why and how he is innocent of this offence.”
