The Igangan Community Development Association has described as false the allegations levelled against one of its men, Tunji Omolewu, that he connived with officials of the Department of State Service to raid the Ibadan home of a Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Sunday Igboho in July.
The ICDA said that the claim by an online presenter called Akanda Oro Awikonko against Omolewu, popularly known as Janbele, was spurious and disappointing.
It will be recalled that some security operatives attacked the Soka, Ibadan residence of Sunday Igboho in a midnight raid, killing two of his aides and arresting others, including some of his cats on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
The raid followed earlier attacks on Igboho on January 26, 2021, by some faceless gunmen who torched a section of his house, and the faceoff, on February 26, 2021, between Igboho and his supporters with the security agents along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when going for a meeting with Pa Ayo Adebanjo, an Afenifere chief.
The Chairman of the Igangan Community Development Association, Segun Okedeji, at a news conference in Igangan, Ibarapa North Area of Oyo State recently, described the allegation as mischievous, callous and a wicked lie against Janbele and the Igangan community.
Okedeji said that “The (Igangan) community will not tolerate any act capable of severing its cordial relationship with Igboho who, through his assistance, liberated the entire zone from the incessant attacks on farmers and residents by armed Fulani herdsmen.
“The Igangan community has undisputed confidence in Janbele, an ally of Igboho for almost three decades without any form of suspicion, that he can never betray him.
“This is one of the several plots by some unscrupulous elements to project Igangan community as an ingrate.”
Okedeji asked Awikonko to retract the online publication that allegedly maligned the character of Janbele and the Igangan community and tender public apology to it within the next seven days.
“Failure to do that at the expiration of the deadline issued to Awikonko, the community will not hesitate to take legal action against him,” Okedeji warned.
Attempts made by our correspondent to get a reaction from Awikonko on his claim against Omolewu as of the time of filing this report were abortive as calls made to him were not picked. SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him were also not replied.
