IGP bemoans poor conditions of police commands, divisions in Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has bemoaned dilapidated state of police divisions and area commands across the country.

Egbetokun expressed his displeasure saying that the dilapidated buildings do not only compromise safety and wellbeing of policemen but also hampers the delivery and effective services of the men and officers of the divisions and commands.

He stated this in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Thursday during the inauguration of newly constructed modern divisional police headquarters in the area.

The structure was constructed by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.

Represented by the state Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, the IGP said the dilapidated buildings across the police divisions and commands need urgent intervention.

“I want to draw our attention to the divisions and commands buildings within Ebonyi State and other state commands which remain in dire need of renovation due to attack by hoodlums or depreciation due to the old age of the buildings

“In Ekoli command specifically, from Ikwo division to area command headquarters, Ohaozara or even the present divisional headquarters in Ivo need urgent renovation.

“They have unfortunately deteriorated and required urgent intervention. The state of these dilapidated buildings not only compromises the safety and well-being of our officers but also hampers the delivery and effective services

“In this regards, I respectively appeal to the management of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to consider our request and assist us to renovate some of the dilapidated structures in line with the vision of the Nigeria Police Force”, he stated.

The Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sa’idu said the trust fund will build more modern police stations across the nation to bring security closer to the people.

He disclosed that the trust fund will train officers that will man the modern police stations for effective services.
