The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Usman Ododo winner of the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State.
The State Returning Officer of INEC for the gubernatorial poll, Prof. Johnson Urama who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, announced the results on Sunday night at INEC state’s collation centre in Lokoja, the state capital.
Urama declared Ododo as the winner with 446,237 votes while Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, came a distant second with a total of 259,052 votes.
Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 46,362 votes to come third in the poll.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Leke Abejide, got 21,819 votes to come fourth.
The state’s Returning Officer said the suspended elections in 59 polling units of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, which had been slated for fresh election on Saturday, would not affect the results because the PVCs collected in the places cancelled are 16,247, thus making him to proceed with declaring Ododo winner having satisfied the law from all the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.
“Ahmed Usman Ododo of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and hereby returned elected,” Urama declared.
