Inside Magodo :- Why Ziggies was shut: The inside story

Ziggies Lifestyle Arena in Magodo Phase 2, Lagos, may appear to have resumed operations after months of closure, but sources within the hotel management have revealed to The Point that the hotel is still struggling with the challenges that led to its closure in the first instance.
Our correspondent gathered that an ex-manager of the hotel mismanaged funds, making the outfit incur debts running into hundreds of millions in the process.
Another source, a waitress at the hotel, who pleaded anonymity, lamented that the ex-manager embezzled a lot of money and put the hotel in a mess.
“Our former manager has no good intention for the hotel. The situation was made worse by his penchant for living lavishly. On several occasions, I have heard my colleagues complaining about how he cornered money meant for the running of the hotel. If you saw the level of patronage we used to get, you would agree with me that we should never have found ourselves in this situation,” she stated.
The waitress, highlighting some of the services in the relaxation arena that generate huge revenue, said, “For instance, we have some rooms that are not less than N18, 000 per night, swimming pool per head is N1,000 and our event hall costs about N700,000 to use.
“The day the hotel was finally closed down, they wanted to arrest him. Unfortunately, they didn’t know he was the manager until he drove off. They even talked to him, but he didn’t introduce himself as the manger.”
Though, the waitress confirmed that a new manager had been brought in, she was not sure if the debt had been settled.
“AMCON took over the property and we now have a new manager. We have started work, but business is still slow. I am sure people don’t know we have started operations,” she disclosed.
