Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has been remanded in DSS custody and his case adjourned till July 26 for continuation of his trial. He was on Tuesday brought to court in Abuja before Justice Binta Nyako following his re-arrest by the Federal Government.

Kanu had been on trial for criminal charges of terrorism and treasonable felony brought against him by the federal government before he escaped out of the country.

Counsel to the Federal Government, Shuaib Labaran, had applied to the court for an order to remand Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Service.

The counsel said the request became imperative because lawyers to Kanu were yet to be abreast of his re-arrest.

When given permission to speak in court, Kanu said he escaped for his life following the invasion of his house by heavily armed security operatives with his life seriously threatened.

He alleged that he would have been killed along with others on the day of the invasion if not for the wisdom he applied to jump out of the country.

Justice Binta Nyako granted the request of the counsel to the Federal Government and ordered that Kanu be remanded in the custody of DSS till July 26 for the continuation of his trial.

Security buffs played a fast one of photographers and cameramen who had positioned themselves to take his picture. They were disappointed as he was whisked away through a VIP gate.
