With the observation of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s weekly Monday sit-at-home order in South East, Nigeria, now in the fourth week, Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Nweze Umani has urged people to go about their normal businesses, with the assurance that security of lives and property would be guaranteed in the state.

He stated that traders and banks who failed to open for business on Monday August 30, 2021, would be doing so at the risk of losing the right to continue operating in the state.

Umahi’s position was contained in a media statement signed by Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, issued in Abakaliki, on Monday.

The governor also directed all public and civil servants across the state to report to their duty posts forthwith or stand being sacked.

He urged the public to go about their legitimate duties as security agencies had intensified patrols in all nooks and crannies of the state.

It stated, “His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has directed that all civil and public servants must report to work across the state on Monday. Whosoever fails to report to his or her duty post, stands to lose his/her job. All heads of MDA’s are to take note and also maintain attendance of workers.”

The statement further urged members of the public to go about their normal duties without fear, as security agents would be on hand to protect them.

“The general public is by this announcement advised to go about their normal businesses without fear. Security agencies have been directed to patrol 24 hours in all corners of the State. All concerned are to take note and adhere strictly to this government directive,” it added.

Recall that for fear of attacks, people in the South East, including Ebonyi State have continued to observe the sit-at-home order by the IPOB in agitation for Nnamdi Kanu’s release despite the order having been relaxed by IPOB.

Also, note that the first week of observing this order in Ebonyi state six persons were allegedly killed with properties worth million destroyed for going contrary to the order.
