Iranian nuclear power plant shut for technical reasons

The Iranian nuclear plant, Bushehr, in the south of the country has been temporarily shut for technical reasons.

The power plant would be taken offline for three to four days until the technical issues were resolved, a spokesperson for the energy company, Tavanir, said on Monday.

He did not provide further details, but it was believed that the technical issues were to do with missing spare parts.

The Bushehr nuclear plant, a joint project with Russia, had been riddled by problems in the past months.

There had been repeated reports that the plant was unable to buy spare parts from Russia, especially since the economic recession caused by U.S.-imposed sanctions.

The nuclear plant in Bushehr, the only one in the country, was tolerated by international powers because it was only used for civilian purposes.

The uranium came from Russia and it was supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
