Iwobi gets Osman’s praise

Everton legend Leon Osman singled out Alex Iwobi for praise for his impressive performance during the Toffees 1-0 win over Manchester United in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park at the weekend.

The Nigeria international was involved in the build-up to Everton’s match-winning strike when he laid the ball to Anthony Gordon, who unleashed a powerful strike that went in via a deflection off Harry Maguire in the 27th minute. And Gordon’s goal boosts Everton’s chances of escaping relegation.

Everton had not created anything up to that point and it was the brilliance of England number one Jordan Pickford that kept them in the game as he made great saves to deny Marcus Rashford from breaking the deadlock.

Iwobi started in the center of the pack along with Fabian Delph and Allan, meaning he had offensive and defensive duties, and it was the industry of the Hale End Academy graduate that impressed Osman.

Speaking during half-time on the Premier League world feed, Osman said: “Wan-Bissaka should have been sprinting right from the start of that. Everton have shown a bit more than I have seen in recent weeks, the crowd is spurring them on.

“I have seen Iwobi sprint around the pitch to cover spaces and cover gaps but its halftime, it’s one half of football.

“Everton were ahead at Turf Moor in the week and ended up losing the game.”

After winning back-to-back home games, Frank Lampard’s Everton are currently sitting seventeenth in the table, four points above 18th-placed Burnley who have a game in hand.

United are on ninth place with 51 points from 31 games and their top four hopes appear remote.
