The Police in Osun State have dragged a travel agent, Ayodeji Eniola, before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding a lady seeking to travel abroad.

The 49-year-old defendant was accused of committing the offence sometime in the month of June, 2022, at about 11:15am at Stadium Area, Osogbo.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, Eniola fraudulently obtained a sum of N200,000 and one International Passport from one Jadesola Bukola with the pretence of assisting her to travel abroad within five months but failed.

Kayode informed the court that the defendant stole the N200,000 and the passport, valued at N50,000, from the victim, adding that he committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, CAP 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered the defendant, who pleaded not guilty, to furnish the court with a formal bail application. He ordered that Eniola be remanded at a correctional centre.

Similarly, a 33-year-old businessman, Oluwasegun Agbaje, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly defrauding one of the judges in the state.

The Police in the state arrested Agbaje and arraigned him at an Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court for offences bordering on fraud and theft.

The defendant was accused of fraudulently obtaining the sum of N1.3million from one Justice Adegoke Lateef after promising to supply him some building materials, which he failed to do.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, the offence was committed on December 20, 2022, at about 4:00pm, at Oke-Sapo Halleluyah area in Osogbo.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The defence counsel, Najite Okobe, begged the court to admit his client on bail, saying the offence was bailable.

However, the police prosecutor objected the bail application, asking the court to consider the amount involved.

Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered that Agbaje be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter till June 6, 2023.
