Judge who dismissed Atiku’s petition against Buhari’s reelection promoted to Supreme Court

THE National Judicial Council has recommended the elevation of four Justices of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.

The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the second term election of President Muhammadu Buhari, Justice Mohammed Garba, was among the four Justices who were recommended for elevation at the NJC meeting. He is from the North West Geo-political Zone.

Others are Tijjani Abubakar (North-East); Abdu Aboki (North-West) and Mohammed Saulawa (North-west).

The NJC said in a statement by its spokesperson, Soji Oye, that 18 others were recommended for appointment as judges of other courts.

They are Gumna Kashim Kaigama, recommended for appointment as the Chief Judge of Yobe State; Kadi Muhammed (Grand Kadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Katsina State); and Mathew Emeka Njoku (President, Customary Court of Appeal, Imo State).

The Council also recommended the appointment of six lawyers as judges of the High Court of Kano State.

They are Jamilu Shehu Suleiman, Maryam Ahmen Sabo, Sanusi Ado Ma’aji, Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, Zuwaira Yusuf and Hafsat Yahaya Sani.
