Judiciary workers’ strike paralyses LG election tribunal in Nasarawa

The strike by the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria has prevented the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal from sitting in Lafia.

Our correspondent gathered that the tribunal which was to continue its sitting on Monday in Lafia, could not sit because the union withdrew its members.

The state Chairman of JUSUN, Jimoh Musa, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the union, Solomon Iyigulu, said that their members could not participate in the proceedings of the tribunal.

He said, “Since the chairman and members of the tribunal are not our members, they can go ahead and sit, but none of our members would be part of the sitting.

“The management of the Judiciary in the state can hire people from anywhere to serve as secretary, clerk and other supporting staff to continue their sitting.”

The JUSUN chairman also warned that the security agencies would be held responsible for breaking into the premises of the venue of the tribunal as their members were on strike.

He, therefore, called on the union members to continue to stay at home until the leadership of the union directed otherwise.

When contacted, the Chairman of the tribunal, Habila Abughadaka, who spoke through the Secretary, Isuwa Ayiwulu, said that the sitting could not continue without the supporting staff who are members of
JUSUN.

The chairman explained that the secretary, the clerk and other supporting staff are members of
JUSUN.

He said that the tribunal was currently stranded and didn’t know what to do.

The Nasarawa State chapter of JUSUN embarked on an indefinite strike action on November 13 to press home demands for better
welfare.
