June 12 not Democracy Day, says Tofa, NRC presidential candidate

…insists election not conculsive

The standard bearer of the National Republican Convention in the 1993 presidential election, Alhaji Bashir Tofa, has kicked against President Muhammad Buhari’s decision to recognise June 12 as Democracy Day.

Tofa insisted that such a pronouncement by President Buhari deserved “serious reconsideration.”

He said this in a statement he issued on Sunday in Kano.

Tofa, who was reacting to President Buhari’s recent honour to the late MKO Abiola and the changing of Democracy Day from May 29 to June 12, stated that to him, the 1993 presidential election was inconclusive.

Tofa’s statement partly reads, “Whatever may be the prevailing sentiment and politics in Abuja, the idea that June 12 should be the new Democracy Day is also a matter that deserves serious reconsideration.”
