Men of the Kano State Vigilante Group otherwise called Neighborhood Watch, have reportedly arrested a notorious burglar, Muritala Ibrahim.

The 40-year-old suspect is said to be the leader of a criminal syndicate that specializes in breaking into homes during odd hours in parts of the state.
The Zonal Commander, Kano Neighborhood Watch, Munir Haruna, said that the suspect, who for long, had been on the watch list of the local security outfit, was already in their custody.

Haruna said that the surge in burglary cases around Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state prompted the command to intensify surveillance in the affected parts of the state.

“We kept vigil due to mounting reports of house breaking and theft and luckily, we ran into the gang leader and the members of his gang during one of their operations in the area. They had broken into a house at about 4am; on the fateful day, they were about to move away with the items that they stole when we intercepted them.

“Some members of the gang escaped but we succeeded in arresting their gang leader and recovered the exhibits in their possession,” Haruna said.
He added that the suspect had provided the command with vital information that could help to unravel those who were aiding and abetting the gang in carrying out illicit activities.

Ibrahim, who confessed that he and his gang had operated in the state for more two years, pleaded for leniency.
