Stephen Keshi Junior, son of the late former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, has berated the Federal Government for shunning his dad’s burial.
Keshi junior said it was disappointing that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration showed little concern towards his father’s burial, by leaving the organisation of the funeral rites to the family alone, despite numerous promises to give late Keshi a grand burial.
In his words, “I sat in front of the federal government on national television a few weeks ago and they promised they would honour my dad the way he deserves,” he wrote on Instagram.
“But they didn’t do as promised, we aren’t mad, nor sad, just disappointed; they should be ashamed of themselves.”
Keshi said that the action had sent a terrible message to the youths striving to do great things for Nigeria. “The good thing is that we were raised not to ask for handouts. We don’t owe anyone shit and we can say they owe my dad everything,” he said.
But in a bizarre twist, the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, said that the Federal Government planned to properly honour the late Keshi after the Olympic Games.
“We don’t want a haphazard burial for such a great patriot, that is why the minister of sports has said the FG will play its own part after the Olympics”, Nneka Ikem Anibeze said.
“We will unveil details after the games.”
Stephen Keshi died on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, of heart-related complications, at the age of 54 at his residence in Benin City, Edo state.
