The police in Abia State have finally solved a seven-year old riddle with the arrest of a suspect, Enyeribe Nkwocha, for the alleged abduction of a lady (names withheld) from Awo Idemili in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State in 2010.

The police also said that the suspect and others now at large, kidnapped their victim and subjected her to prostitution for fees, which they collected for their personal use. The state police command also recovered a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number APR 128 GL, which was snatched at gunpoint from its owner, Obinna Ekwuruibe, along School Road, Umuahia in 2015.

The kidnap suspect, a resident of 24 Nkume Street Aba , was among 16 other suspects arrested by the police in Abia. Speaking on the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, said, “The suspect with others at large, dispossessed their victim of her belongings and subjected her to prostitution in different hotels all over the country, collecting the proceeds for their personal use.”

According to Oyebade, the suspect was arrested by police operatives attached to the Ndiegoro Division, Aba. The police commissioner added that the suspect had confessed to the crime and was now helping the police to arrest his fleeing accomplices.

He said that 15 other suspects were arrested for various crimes, including cultism, armed robbery, fraud, childtrafficking and illegal possession of fire arm, adding that they, too, had all confessed to their crimes.

The suspects include, Chinweotuto Ebele, Igwe Ogbwu, Promise Ajiero, Chukwuma Kalu, Kelechi Awa, Onyekachi Uwaoma, Nnaoma Nnah, Moses Okezie and Kevin Okon Effiong. The others are Chinwendu Ngozi, Chukwuemeka Imo, Gift Okereke, Akpan Nse Emem, Emeka Ogwum, Victor Jonah, and Nsikak Johnson.

The Abia police boss added that during the operations, one Esther Osele, aged six, and two pregnant teenagers, namely Melody Ndubuisi and Happiness Monday, were rescued from child traffickers.

Another feat recorded by the police in the state was the recovery of a Toyota Camry car with registration no AE 289 DUT, snatched from one Mrs. Precious Udeh, by an elderly woman and a young man she offered a ride in the car along Obehie axis of Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway.

“The command would not relent in its implementation of strategies aimed at giving the state quality police service. The exercise is designed to ensure that there is no hiding place for criminals in the state,” Oyebade said.

Extolling men and officers of the command for their dedication and commitment to achieving the agenda and for the gallantry displayed, the police boss appealed for the support of the public for the command.
